West Virginia's 55 Counties Begin Canvassing November 9; Turnout Put at 38.33%

West Virginia Secretary of State Kris Warner announced on November 6 that all 55 counties will begin canvassing the November 3 general election results on Monday, November 9, with county commissions serving as the boards of canvassers. State law requires canvassing to begin five days after the election, not counting Sunday; if a quorum cannot be reached that day, it may be postponed to the next available date. The canvass will include a manual spot-check audit of the unofficial results to verify the accuracy of the count.

Preliminary figures show 463,912 ballots cast statewide, 38.33% of the state's 1,210,385 registered voters; 162,349 ballots were cast early and 7,001 absentee ballots have been received. Turnout in the last four midterm general elections was 42.9% in 2022, 47.9% in 2018, 37.8% in 2014 and 44% in 2010.
