Baez-Geller Flips Florida House District 106, Ousting Basabe 54.0 to 46.0 Percent

Florida's state House District 106 flipped in the November 3 election. Unofficial results from the Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections, with all 47 precincts reporting, show Democrat Lucia Baez-Geller defeating Republican incumbent state Rep. Fabian Basabe with 30,912 votes (53.96 percent) to 26,376 (46.04 percent), a margin of 4,536 votes.

District 106 runs along the Miami-Dade coast, covering Miami Beach, Surfside, Bal Harbour, Sunny Isles Beach and Aventura. Baez-Geller is a former teacher and former Miami-Dade County School Board member. Basabe, a two-term incumbent who first won the seat by 242 votes in 2022, ran without his party's endorsement this year.

The same night, Miami Beach voters rejected a proposal to extend a 106-year ground lease at The Lincoln property on Lincoln Road.

The results are unofficial until certified by the county canvassing board. The flip returns the district to Democratic representation for the first time since 2022.
