Womack Upsets Former State House Speaker Tim Moore in North Carolina's 14th District

North Carolina's 14th Congressional District flipped in the November 3 election. Unofficial results from the State Board of Elections, with all precincts reporting, show Democrat LaKesha Womack defeating Republican Rep. Tim Moore with 147,388 votes (51.1 percent) to 140,973 (48.9 percent), a margin of 6,415 votes. Decision Desk HQ has projected Womack the winner; the Associated Press had not yet called the race as of November 4.

Moore, the longest-serving speaker of the North Carolina House in state history, won this R+8 district by about 16 points in 2024. He carried the district's five western counties but lost its 28 Mecklenburg County precincts by roughly two to one.

Womack is a first-time candidate, an ordained minister who runs a leadership consulting company; she raised about $56,000 for the race, against Moore's $1.9 million.

Counties will complete their canvass on November 13. Democrats flipped several U.S. House seats in North Carolina in this election.
