ALCS Game 4 Rained Out in Cleveland; Series Resumes Saturday Night With Guardians Up 2-1

CLEVELAND — Game 4 of the American League Championship Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Cleveland Guardians was postponed by rain on Friday night, October 16, at Progressive Field. After the scheduled 8 p.m. ET start was pushed back past 9 p.m., Major League Baseball moved the game to Saturday, October 17, at 8 p.m. ET at the same ballpark.

Under the revised schedule, Game 5 will be played Sunday at Progressive Field. If necessary, Game 6 would be Monday in St. Petersburg, Florida, with a possible Game 7 on Tuesday. Cleveland leads the best-of-seven series 2-1 after Petey Halpin's two-run homer lifted the Guardians to a 3-2 win in Game 3. It is the first ALCS postponement since 2019, when a Yankees-Astros game was rained out.

Cleveland had planned a bullpen game for Game 4 with Shawn Armstrong as the opener, but manager Stephen Vogt could instead turn to Foster Griffin on Saturday; Griffin started Game 1 and allowed two runs in five innings. Tampa Bay had been set to start Nick Martinez.

In the National League, the Milwaukee Brewers swept the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday to reach their first World Series since 1982. The World Series opens October 23 in Milwaukee, giving the Brewers a full week off.
