Follow-Up: Rays Beat Guardians 7-3 to Win ALCS 4-2, Will Face the Brewers for the Title
The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Cleveland Guardians 7-3 in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series on October 20, winning the series 4-2 to claim the American League pennant and advance to the World Series for the third time in franchise history — and the first time since 2020. Rays starter Freddy Peralta pitched 5 1/3 innings allowing just one run to earn his second win of the series and was named ALCS Most Valuable Player.
Peralta arrived from the New York Mets in a trade only in August; the Rays have won all 10 of his appearances since, one of the most remarkable turnaround stories of the season's second half. Yandy Díaz and Junior Caminero each hit a two-run home run to lock down the win for Tampa Bay.
The World Series opens Friday, October 23, in Milwaukee, with the Rays facing the National League champion Milwaukee Brewers. Notably, neither franchise has ever won a World Series, so this year is guaranteed to produce a first-time champion.
The Rays went 98-64 in the regular season to finish first in the AL East; the Brewers' 103-59 record was the best in baseball.
