[Video] Trump, in First Post-Election Remarks, Concedes Iran War Hurt GOP but Says He Would Do Nothing Different

Washington, November 4 — On the day after the midterm elections, President Donald Trump delivered remarks at the construction site of the new White House ballroom, his first public appearance since Democrats won majorities in both the House and the Senate. The White House released the full 41-minute, 51-second official video; Interior Secretary Doug Burgum joined him, and Trump toured the site and signed a steel beam covered with workers' signatures, writing “Love!”

Most of the remarks were devoted to the ballroom project. Trump described the ballroom's design and security specifications, praised the construction workers' craftsmanship, and discussed other renovation projects at the White House.

In questions from reporters, Trump was asked about Vice President JD Vance's social media post attributing the Republican losses to the war, and he said the assessment was “largely true.” “I knew the war was gonna impact [the election results]. Whether it impacted it or not, Iran can't have a nuclear weapon,” he said. Asked whether he would have acted differently, he said: “I would've done nothing different.”

“We stopped them from having a nuclear weapon, and they will never have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said. On when the war would end, he said: “The war will end whenever I want it to. But it's got to be done right.” He also acknowledged that the war had pushed up gasoline prices and affected how voters felt.

On the election outcome, Trump said: “If I were on the ballot, we would have won,” pointing to the thousands of supporters packed into his rallies. He congratulated Democrats, indicated a willingness to work across party lines, and warned that he could veto legislation he opposes. The White House released the full official video of the remarks.
