跟进：教宗良十四世盼奥列什基停火合作推动更广泛和平努力
梵蒂冈，11 月 1 日——教宗良十四世 11 月 1 日周日表示，他希望俄罗斯与乌克兰在执行乌克兰城镇奥列什基停火方面的合作，能够为更广泛的和平努力铺平道路。
“已经开展了一次人道主义行动，以帮助奥列什基市的平民。我希望，使这次必要的人道主义姿态成为可能的各方之间的合作，将加强他们参与对话的意愿，并带来新的、具体的和平倡议，”教宗在周日祈祷中说。
路透社报道，乌克兰与俄罗斯 10 月 23日表示，双方已就奥列什基达成停火协议。这项停火由美国第一夫人梅拉尼娅·特朗普斡旋，教宗良十四世亦有参与，目的是让援助物资运抵并让人员从这座前线城镇撤离。该镇当时正面临严重的食品与药品短缺。
乌克兰总统泽连斯基表示，和平谈判代表将于 11 月初举行新一轮会谈。教宗 10 月 16日曾分别与俄罗斯总统普京和泽连斯基通话。克里姆林宫方面表示，普京告诉教宗，他支持梵蒂冈向奥列什基平民运送物资的倡议，并愿意合作。
梵蒂冈外交部长、总主教保罗·加拉格尔周二（10月27日）表示，尽管教宗最近与普京和泽连斯基通过话，但他不认为梵蒂冈在促成这项为期六天的停火方面发挥了直接作用。
Follow-Up: Pope Leo XIV Hopes Oleshky Truce Cooperation Will Spur Broader Peace Efforts
VATICAN CITY, November 1 — Pope Leo said on Sunday he hopedcooperation between Russia and Ukraine in implementing a ceasefire inthe Ukrainian town of Oleshky would pave the way for broader peaceefforts.
"A humanitarian operation has been carried out to help the civilianpopulation in the city of Oleshky. I hope that the cooperation betweenthe parties, which made this necessary humanitarian gesture possible,will strengthen their willingness to engage in dialogue and lead tofresh concrete initiatives for peace," Pope Leo said during his Sundayprayer.
Reuters reported that Ukraine and Russia said on October 23 they hadagreed to a ceasefire in Oleshky. The ceasefire was brokered by U.S.First Lady Melania Trump, with the additional involvement of Pope Leo,to allow aid deliveries and evacuations from the frontline town, whichhad been suffering acute food and medicine shortages.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has said peace negotiatorswould meet for fresh talks in early November. Pope Leo spoke with bothRussian President Vladimir Putin and Zelenskiy on October 16. TheKremlin said Putin told Leo that he supported a Vatican initiative todeliver supplies to civilians in Oleshky and was ready to cooperate.
The Vatican's foreign minister, Archbishop Paul Gallagher, said onTuesday that although Leo had recently spoken with Putin andZelenskiy, he did not believe the Vatican had played a direct role inarranging the six-day ceasefire.
