Follow-Up: Death Toll in Airstrikes Near Sanaa Rises to 27, Houthi Health Ministry Says
The Houthi-run health ministry in Yemen updated its toll on Saturday, November 7, saying at least 27 people were killed and 36 wounded in airstrikes on a village near the capital Sanaa, up from the 22 killed and 30 wounded reported earlier in the day, according to Reuters. The Houthi-run Saba news agency blamed the strikes on Saudi Arabia.
The ministry said the strikes hit homes in the town of Bani Hushaysh, a Houthi stronghold east of Sanaa, and that most of those killed were women and children. Abdul-Aziz al-Dailami, director of Sehatuna Hospital in Sanaa, said many victims remained trapped under the rubble, including first responders.
Reuters could not independently verify the account. Saudi Arabia's Center for International Communication did not immediately comment, saying it would look into Reuters' inquiries.
The attack was one of the deadliest reported since fighting between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-aligned Houthis resumed in July, which shattered a 2022 U.N.-brokered truce that had largely halted attacks between the two sides. The Houthi account blaming Saudi Arabia has not been independently verified. (Source: Reuters)
