Nebraska Fires Offensive Coordinator Holgorsen After Four Straight Losses
The University of Nebraska football program announced on the morning of Nov. 7 that it has relieved offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen of his duties, a move made after four straight losses. In a statement released that morning, head coach Matt Rhule said: 'Earlier today, I relieved offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen of his duties.' Co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Glenn Thomas will take over play-calling.
The Cornhuskers started the season 5-0, averaging 43.6 points over their first five games, but then lost four straight, scoring no more than 17 points in four consecutive Big Ten games as the offense stalled. Holgorsen's dismissal is seen as the direct response to the sputtering attack. Moving now also gives Nebraska a head start in searching for a new offensive coordinator, and the school said the search will unfold over the coming weeks. The pressing question for the rest of the season is whether Thomas can revive the offense, and fans await the program's next steps.
