Sporting Kansas City Visits San Diego in Season Finale, Seeking to End Seven-Match Winless Run
Major League Soccer's Decision Day arrives on Nov. 7, and Sporting Kansas City visits San Diego FC to close out its season. Both clubs are already eliminated from the playoffs, making this a finale only. Kansas City's record is 6-22-5 with 23 points; it started 1-8-2, won consecutive matches only once all year, and is winless in seven since a 1-1 draw with Dallas on Oct. 31. Goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland saved a late penalty last time out to prevent another defeat.
San Diego is 9-13-11 with 38 points; in its second season as an expansion club it has also struggled, going winless in 10 straight before a 1-0 win over St. Louis City on Oct. 31. Forward Anders Dreyer scored the only goal against St. Louis, reaching 14 goals this season and 33 in two seasons. On Decision Day, 18 MLS teams begin planning for the playoffs, while Kansas City and San Diego head into offseason reviews. Kansas City hopes a win can end a disappointing season on a positive note and build confidence for next year's rebuild.
