ICE Arrests 14 Illegal Aliens During Operation Fresh Catch in Northern Michigan
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced on November 6 that its Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Detroit office and the U.S. Forest Service arrested 14 illegal aliens from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico during Operation Fresh Catch in the Cadillac and Manistee areas of Northern Michigan. The operation took place on October 10.
ICE said officers conducted the operation after U.S. Forest Service officers reported finding an increased number of fishing violations by foreign nationals without proper identification.
All 14 individuals were transported to the North Lake Processing Center, where they will remain pending further immigration proceedings. ICE gave a breakdown of the group: one has a DUI conviction; three are reinstated final orders who have been deported from the United States previously; one is an immigration absconder who now has a final order of removal; another failed to depart the United States voluntarily and has now been issued a final order of removal; and all were in violation of U.S. immigration laws.
ERO Detroit Field Office Director Matthew Putra said ERO will continue working with the U.S. Forest Service and other law enforcement partners to safeguard Michigan's public lands, protect natural resources and uphold federal immigration laws, and that the coordinated efforts promote public safety and help ensure that those who violate immigration laws are held accountable.
ICE said that, consistent with the Trump administration's immigration enforcement and public safety priorities, it will continue to identify, arrest and remove illegal aliens who violate U.S. immigration law. (Source: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement)
