Border Patrol Seizes 1,435 Pounds of Cocaine Worth $9.8 Million in Back-to-Back Stops at San Clemente
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said on November 6 that Border Patrol agents assigned to the San Diego Sector seized more than 1,435 pounds of cocaine, valued at $9.8 million, during two vehicle inspections just three minutes apart on October 25 at the Border Patrol checkpoint in San Clemente, a city in Orange County, California.
CBP said in its release summary that the cocaine was found and seized during the two inspections. The summary did not release the drivers' identities, vehicle details or the disposition of the cases; further details are to follow in the agency's newsroom release.
The San Diego Sector is the Border Patrol's main sector in Southern California, responsible for the U.S.-Mexico border and for immigration and drug-smuggling enforcement along inland corridors such as Interstate 5. The San Clemente checkpoint, at the southern end of Orange County on I-5, has repeatedly intercepted large drug loads.
