(英文原文:Tesla will be winding down production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year to make room for increased Cybercab production)路透社、CNN等媒体当天跟进报道。

Musk Announces Cybertruck Wind-Down: Texas Production to Wrap Up by Mid-2027 to Make Room for Cybercab

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced in a post on X on November 6 that Tesla will wind down production of its Cybertruck electric pickup at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of 2027, making room for increased production of the Cybercab robotaxi. The Texas plant, near Austin, is the only factory in the world that builds the Cybertruck, so winding down the line there brings the model's production run to its end.

"Tesla will be winding down production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year to make room for increased Cybercab production," Musk wrote. Reuters, CNN and other outlets reported the announcement the same day. The announcement came in Musk's personal post; Tesla has issued no formal discontinuation notice for the model, has given no exact end date, and has not said whether the line could move to another plant.

Wes Morrill, the Cybertruck's lead engineer, struck a valedictory note on X the same day, calling the truck "an incredible technology development platform" that "lives on through Cybercab." On the question owners care about most — support after production ends — Morrill said Tesla will maintain a supply of spare parts and that service support will continue. Musk, replying to a user, added that the Cybertruck fleet "will be around for a long time."

Behind the wind-down are sales far below the company's ambitions. Tesla does not break out Cybertruck sales; Cox Automotive's Kelley Blue Book estimates put U.S. sales at 38,965 in 2024 and 20,237 in 2025, with just 11,586 in the first three quarters of 2026, down 28% year over year, including 4,323 in the third quarter. Musk had once targeted annual production of 250,000 Cybertrucks.

The truck's life has been short. Unveiled in November 2019, its angular stainless-steel body — and the "armor glass" windows cracked by a steel ball at the launch event — made it an instant controversy. Production, first promised for 2021, slipped repeatedly; the first truck rolled off the Texas line in July 2023, and deliveries began on November 30, 2023. If production wraps up in mid-2027 as announced, the model will have been on sale for only about three and a half years. Reuters counts 11 recalls since launch — and Tesla raised the truck's prices again just a day before Musk's announcement.

Taking over the line is the Cybercab, Tesla's two-seat robotaxi with no steering wheel or pedals, which Musk has positioned at the center of the company's bet on autonomous driving and robotics. The shift was foreshadowed in January, when Musk said on an earnings call that the Texas plant's capacity would gradually move toward fully autonomous vehicles. In October, Tesla told reservation holders in Australia and New Zealand that the Cybertruck program there was cancelled and deposits would be refunded — the overseas retreat came first.

Tesla has not provided further detail on the wind-down timetable, the future of the line, or the scale of the planned Cybercab expansion.
