Follow-Up: Kyiv Court Holds the Woman Who First Raised the Alarm Over the National Guard House for 60 Days, on Charges of Obstructing the Military and Organizing Riots

On November 4, Kyiv's Solomiansky District Court ordered Valentyna Moloda held in custody for 60 days without bail. Moloda was the woman who, on November 2, arrived by ambulance at a house in the village of Petropavlivska Borshchahivka in Kyiv region and raised the alarm that mobilized men were being held inside; the house was used by Ukraine's National Guard as a temporary station. According to courtroom reporting by Suspilne, Ukraine's public broadcaster, prosecutor Marina Hrushevska said Moloda had been formally notified of suspicion on November 3.

Prosecutors accuse her of obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other armed formations, disseminating information about the location of military personnel, and organizing mass riots, and investigators consider her the initiator and organizer of the November 2 protest outside the house. Tetyana Kireieva was likewise remanded in custody for two months the same day. Ukraine's Security Service said it had identified about 100 participants in the November 2 clashes and opened proceedings under articles on obstructing the armed forces, disseminating defense-force locations and mass riots.

In court, Moloda said she is a practicing physician: Kireieva had told her that her husband, who had recently undergone surgery, was being held in the house without medical assistance, and she had come in response to the plea for help. She denied organizing riots and said she would appeal. Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine's Presidential Office, has said Moloda is not a doctor; investigators say the private clinic Med-Prestige, which she identified as her own, ceased operations in 2023. The accusations have not been tested in a trial.

On November 2, about 100 residents gathered outside the house over social-media claims that mobilized men were being held in its basement and beaten, and clashed with police and soldiers; National Guard commander Oleksandr Pivnenko told residents the house was a temporary accommodation and processing point, and Ukraine's State Bureau of Investigation opened a case over suspected abuse of authority by military personnel.
