Gang Member Pleads Guilty to Conspiring to Smuggle Synthetic Drugs Into Prison

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Massachusetts announced that Timothy Hearns, also known as "King Kill," "Tooly," and "Toolman," 36, of Roxbury, a member of the violent Boston-based gang H-Block, pleaded guilty on October 30, 2026, in federal court in Boston to conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute PCP, MDMB-4en-PINACA and ADB-4en-PINACA. U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani scheduled sentencing for February 2, 2027.

Hearns was one of 10 H-Block gang members and associates charged in August 2024 following a multi-year investigation begun in 2021 in response to an uptick in gang-related drug trafficking, shootings and violence. During the investigation, over 500 grams of cocaine, cocaine base (crack cocaine) and fentanyl, as well as over 20,000 doses of drug-laced paper, were seized. Hearns is the 10th and final defendant to plead guilty in the case.

Hearns is an inmate at a state correctional institution, currently serving a 19.5- to 20-year manslaughter sentence. He was sentenced in 2014 for a 2010 shooting that killed a 14-year-old at the Columbus/Heath Street basketball courts and wounded a 15-year-old boy; at the time, he and other H-Block members were engaged in a violent rivalry with Heath Street gang associates.

According to court documents, Hearns is one of three members and associates charged with conspiring to smuggle illegal drugs into a Massachusetts prison. Sheets of paper are saturated or sprayed with liquid narcotics, dried, printed with fake legal correspondence, and mailed to inmates in envelopes marked as legal mail; several sheets containing PCP and illegal synthetic cannabinoids known as "K2" were seized, and a single sheet is estimated to be worth as much as $80,000 inside the prison. Intercepted jail calls revealed that Hearns and his co-conspirators conspired to introduce synthetic drugs into the facilities.

The charge carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, at least three years and up to a lifetime of supervised release, and a fine of up to $1 million. United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and officials from the DEA New England Field Division, the U.S. Secret Service Boston Field Office, and the FBI Boston Division made the announcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney John T. Dawley is prosecuting the case. (Source: U.S. Department of Justice)
