Missing Utah Teen Recovered Safely in Oregon After a Year and a Half; 39-Year-Old Man in Custody
Salt Lake City — The Federal Bureau of Investigation's Salt Lake City Field Office said on November 1 that law enforcement in Oregon had safely recovered a 17-year-old girl who was reported missing from Garden City, Utah, in May 2025, a year and a half ago. She was located that afternoon in Oregon with a 39-year-old male, who was taken into custody without incident.
The FBI said local police in Oregon acted on information provided by FBI Salt Lake City, working directly with the Rich County Sheriff's Office in Utah. "Tonight, local police in Oregon brought a minor who had been missing for a year and a half to safety, acting on information provided by our FBI Salt Lake City Field Office," said FBI Director Kash Patel. "We are grateful she can return home, and we will continue working with our partners to hold those responsible accountable."
Patel added a warning aimed at people who use online "gore groups" to target and exploit children: the FBI and its partners are coming for them, and the bureau is using every tool at its disposal to combat nihilistic violent extremism, bring offenders to justice and protect America's children.
The FBI and the Rich County Sheriff's Office have been investigating the case for more than a year, pursuing every lead received from across the United States and in other countries, the bureau said. The case is ongoing and no further information was released. The FBI also thanked the Oregon State Police, FBI Portland and the Utah Department of Public Safety for their assistance.
The release did not name the girl or the man taken into custody, and did not identify the Oregon community where she was located.
