Nvidia Rejects Report of a Chinese Spy Near Jensen Huang, Saying Singapore Cloud Executive Had Only Ordinary Business Contact

Nvidia on October 29 rejected a New York Times report that a Chinese intelligence operative had cultivated ties with its founder and chief executive, Jensen Huang, saying the Singapore cloud-computing executive at the center of the story, Megaspeed's Alice Huang, had only ordinary business contact that involved no trade secrets or national-security information. China's foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun on October 30 also denied the allegations and accused Washington of smearing China.

The Times reported on October 29 that the U.S. intelligence community had concluded Alice Huang was gathering information for Beijing, that her business dinners with Huang in the Singapore area drew official attention, and that U.S. law enforcement surveilled her for about a year. It said the Commerce Department investigated Megaspeed in 2025 over possible diversion of restricted Nvidia chips to Chinese buyers, and that trade records show a Malaysian affiliate of Megaspeed bought at least $4.8 billion worth of AI equipment containing Nvidia technology between June 2024 and February 2026. The report noted there is no evidence Jensen Huang knew of the alleged role.

Nvidia spokesman John Rizzo said the interactions with Ms. Huang were "not unusual or unexpected," that regional cloud customers receive ordinary business information, and that this was "not sensitive NVIDIA trade secrets — and zero information relevant to national security." The company said claims that its chips were resold had been "thoroughly investigated and debunked last year." Jensen Huang told Reuters his dealings with Megaspeed were "normal and not unusual," and that Nvidia had counted the GPUs Megaspeed deploys.

Megaspeed said it complies with applicable export-control and sanctions laws, has hired outside lawyers to review the matter and will continue cooperating with authorities.

Guo Jiakun said on October 30 that the U.S. claims were a smear that China firmly opposes, and urged Washington to stop politicizing trade and technology issues. No public information indicates Alice Huang has been charged with any espionage offense.
