General Hospital Wins Best Daytime Drama for a Fifth Straight Year at the 53rd Daytime Emmy Awards
The 53rd Daytime Emmy Awards were held on October 30 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California. ABC's long-running soap General Hospital, which entered the night with 13 nominations, won Outstanding Daytime Drama Series — its fifth consecutive win and its 19th overall.
In the acting categories, Tamara Tunie of Beyond the Gates won Lead Actress for her role as Anita Williams Dupree, and Scott Clifton of The Bold and the Beautiful won Lead Actor as Liam Spencer. Jeff Kober of General Hospital won Guest Performance as Cyrus Renault, his second Daytime Emmy after a 2022 Supporting Actor win. Emerging Talent went to Ambyr Michelle of Beyond the Gates, the first-year soap that led all programs with 15 nominations. Sherri Shepherd won Outstanding Daytime Talk Series Host.
The night's emotional peak was the Lifetime Achievement Honor for Genie Francis, who joined General Hospital in 1977 at age 14 as Laura Spencer and has starred on the show for nearly 50 years. The award was presented by her husband, Jonathan Frakes.
The Daytime Emmy Awards, presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, honor excellence in daytime television, including dramas, talk shows, game shows and lifestyle programming.
