CPSC Warns Consumers to Stop Using Jocoevol 6-Drawer Dressers Immediately: About 32,791 Units Can Tip Over and Entrap Children; Retailer Yinklev Has Not Agreed to a Recall or Remedy
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warned on October 29 that consumers should stop using Jocoevol 6-drawer dressers immediately, because the clothing storage units violate the mandatory standard required by the STURDY Act. The CPSC posting list published the same day puts the number of units at about 32,791.
The hazard is stability: if the dressers are not anchored to the wall, the unstable units pose tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in serious injuries or death to children.
The warning involves Jocoevol-branded dressers sold as model BG-0605 and identified on the dresser label as model C-0633. The dressers were sold in black, are made of wood and have six drawers, and measure about 47.2 inches wide, 15.3 inches long and 32.2 inches high. The CPSC is aware the firm also sold the dressers in other colors.
The CPSC issued a Notice of Violation to the retailer, Shenzhenshi Yiping Keji Youxian Gongsi, doing business as Yinklev, of China. The CPSC said Yinklev has not agreed to an acceptable recall of these dressers or to offer a remedy to consumers.
The CPSC urges consumers to stop using the dresser immediately and dispose of it in accordance with local disposal requirements, or anchor it securely to the wall. Consumers should not sell or give away these hazardous clothing storage units. Incidents involving injury or a product defect can be reported through the CPSC SaferProducts.gov reporting site.
The CPSC is the federal agency charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of injury associated with consumer products. Households with this model should check the model number and label before deciding how to dispose of or anchor the unit.
