Follow-Up: Dream Send Open Letter to WNBA Protesting Game 6 Move to Thursday Midday, Saying the Conflict Was Raised Long Ago

ATLANTA, Fulton County, Georgia — The Atlanta Dream's ownership group issued an open letter on October 27 publicly protesting the WNBA's move of Game 6 of the Finals to a Thursday midday tipoff. Game 6 had already been rescheduled: originally set for Thursday at 8 p.m., it will now tip off at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday at State Farm Arena. In the letter, the team said playing at midday on a Thursday was "not what we would have chosen and not what we fought for."

The Dream said in the letter that as early as two months ago, when the WNBA set its playoff dates, the team raised concerns about a scheduling conflict with the Atlanta Hawks at the same arena, and repeated those concerns throughout the playoffs, but they were not addressed with the attention and urgency they deserved. Game 6 remains at State Farm Arena, which seats about 17,000, rather than the team's regular-season home, the 3,500-seat Gateway Center; that evening, the Hawks will host the Cleveland Cavaliers in the same arena, with that game pushed back by one hour.

The Dream trail the Golden State Valkyries 3-2 in the Finals, making Thursday midday's (October 29) Game 6 an elimination game for Atlanta.
