US Department of Education FY2026 Review: Over $3.4B in Grants Routed Through Interagency Agreements, Apprenticeships Prioritized

The US Department of Education's fiscal year 2026 review, released October 5, reports that interagency agreements moved more than $3.4 billion in formula and competitive grants through partner agencies. The Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education delivered over 7,850 payments totaling $2 billion via the Department of Labor for career and technical education, adult literacy and workforce preparation.

The Office of Elementary and Secondary Education routed nearly $500 million through Labor and Health and Human Services, including $38 million for career pathways exploration, $78 million for Charter Schools Program state entities and $19.8 million for American History and Civics national activities. The Office of Postsecondary Education awarded about 1,000 new grants totaling nearly $1 billion, prioritizing Registered Apprenticeships, responsible Super Intelligence (SI) and short-term employment-focused programs for the first time. The Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services sent a record $144 million in IDEA funding to states.

"This is truly proof of concept that our interagency partnerships are delivering for the American people," said Secretary of Education Linda McMahon. Nearly 80% of new elementary and secondary grants went directly to state education agencies or state-endorsed projects, and applications to the CCAMPIS child-care program for student parents rose to almost 300 from 161 in the last competition.
