Lake Elsinore Continues Warehouse Hearing to Dec. 8; Environmental Review Flags Significant, Unavoidable Air Quality Impacts
LAKE ELSINORE — Lake Elsinore is a city in Riverside County, California. The Lake Elsinore City Council has continued its hearing on the Baker Street Warehouse Project to Dec. 8, without approving or rejecting the plan. The project's final environmental impact report found significant and unavoidable impacts on air quality and greenhouse gas emissions; if the council approves the project, it would need to adopt a statement of overriding considerations.
According to local media reports, the council opened the hearing on Oct. 13 and took public comment, then voted unanimously to continue the item after the applicant asked for more time to respond to new comments. The proposal calls for two warehouses totaling 1,000,451 square feet on a roughly 140-acre site — one building of 212,028 square feet and another of 788,423 square feet — with about 65.81 acres developed, plus more than 37 acres of offsite utility and roadway improvements and over 33 acres of conservation restoration.
The applicant is also seeking to rezone portions of the site from M-1 (limited manufacturing) to M-2 (general manufacturing), merge 10 parcels into two, and obtain relief from height limits, along with a development agreement. The Planning Commission voted 5-0 on Sept. 1 to recommend approval, but the final decision rests with the City Council.
