Israeli Settlers Kill Palestinian Man in West Bank Village of Yasuf; Foreign Minister Condemns Taybeh Attack on Diplomats

Israeli settlers attacked the West Bank village of Yasuf and killed a villager, Yassin, at the doorstep of his home, wounding his nephew, the village's mayor, Juma Abdel Fattah, told AFP, according to Al Jazeera and AFP reports. The attackers came from a settler outpost established in July. Separately, an Israeli drone strike killed a Palestinian in Gaza. Al Jazeera, citing Gaza health authorities, said 1,439 people have been killed and 5,052 injured in Gaza since the October 2025 ceasefire.

Israel's leadership showed a rare public split over settler violence. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar strongly condemned the Israeli rioters who attacked diplomats in Taybeh, and the Israeli military also condemned the severe act of violence while noting that the diplomats' visit had not been coordinated with it in advance. The Prime Minister's Office said "grave accusations require grave proof" and urged restraint until an investigation is complete. Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot condemned the attack. In Taybeh, 78-year-old French mayor Bernard Baudoux was beaten with iron bars by masked settlers; he later told AFP his injuries were minor. Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine was also injured and hospitalized in clashes the previous day.

UN figures show at least 1,112 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers in the West Bank since October 2023, at least 37 of them by settlers. (GSM, following Al Jazeera, AFP and CNN)
