马来西亚将检讨5G覆盖目标 考虑纳入港口、铁路与高速公路
马来西亚通讯部与马来西亚通讯及多媒体委员会（MCMC）将评估是否把电信覆盖目标扩大到港口、铁路线与高速公路等关键经济区域。通讯部长法米10月17日在槟城表示，现行以人口居住区覆盖率（CoPA）为核心的衡量方式应予检讨，以回应居民稀少、但对经济活动至关重要的地区的连接需求。
法米是在北海北岸集装箱码头（NBCT）为槟城港私人5G计划主持启动后发表上述谈话的。该计划使槟城港成为马来西亚首个采用私人5G网络的港口，由Altel Communications与槟城港合作推行。法米表示，可靠的连接对工业运作日益重要，电信基础设施应同时服务经济枢纽与居民区；私人5G网络可让大量设备同时连接，并支持需要高精度的机械运作，对制造业与物流业尤其有益。
通讯部将就此拟备内阁备忘录，并与交通部合作，探讨把5G部署扩大到全国其他港口。法米还提到，通讯部与MCMC此前已与交通部合作，处理马来亚铁道公司（KTMB）主要铁路线沿线的网络覆盖缺口。
马来西亚还计划在国际平台提出这一议题，包括11月在多哈举行的国际电信联盟（ITU）会议，探讨把5G及未来电信技术的覆盖范围延伸到人口居住区之外。（GSM 据马来西亚媒体报道）
Malaysia to Review 5G Coverage Targets to Include Ports, Railways and Highways
Malaysia's Communications Ministry and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will assess whether telecommunications coverage targets should be expanded to include key economic areas such as ports, railway lines and highways, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said on October 17 in Butterworth, Penang. He said the existing Coverage of Populated Area (CoPA) measurement should be reviewed to address connectivity needs in areas with few residents that are essential to economic activity.
Fahmi was speaking after launching the Penang Port Private 5G initiative at the North Butterworth Container Terminal, which makes Penang Port the first port in Malaysia to adopt a private 5G network, through a collaboration between Altel Communications and Penang Port. He said private 5G networks can benefit manufacturing and logistics operations by connecting numerous devices simultaneously and supporting high-precision machinery.
The ministry will prepare a Cabinet memorandum on the proposal and work with the Transport Ministry to explore expanding 5G deployment to other ports nationwide. Malaysia also plans to raise the proposal at international platforms, including the International Telecommunication Union meeting in Doha in November. (GSM, based on Malaysian media reports)
