Zach Herbert

Texas House District 112: Rep. Angie Chen Button Faces Zach Herbert in Reelection Bid
The race for Texas House District 112, in Dallas County, Texas, is entering its final stretch. The district covers the Garland and Richardson area northeast of Dallas, is about 11% Asian, and is viewed as one of the more competitive Texas House races this year. Republican incumbent State Rep. Angie Chen Button is seeking reelection against Democratic challenger Zach Herbert.
Angie Chen Button, an immigrant from Taiwan who took office in 2009, has a reputation as a no-frills legislator. According to The Yappie, her campaign touts tax cuts she helped pass and legislation to raise teacher pay. She voted to impeach former Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, and she has said she would not vote for Texas Railroad Commissioner candidate Bo French after his inflammatory rhetoric against South Asian students at the University of Texas at Austin.
Herbert is a veteran and an attorney. He has attacked Button for her support of private school vouchers; The Yappie, citing a Houston Chronicle analysis, reported the plan could result in Texas public schools losing $227 million in funding. On fundraising, campaign finance data compiled by Transparency USA show Button with contributions of about $1.89 million and Herbert with about $610,000.
Early voting in Texas began on Oct. 19 and runs through Oct. 30, with Election Day on Nov. 3. According to the Dallas County Elections Department, 76,079 voters cast ballots on the first day of early voting, a county record for a first day of early voting.
