'Drummer Boy' Earns an A CinemaScore, Eyes About $7.9 Million Opening Weekend
Angel Studios' 'Drummer Boy' is winning over moviegoers. The PG-13 war musical, Angel's first live-action theatrical musical, opened on November 6 in 2,850 North American theaters with about $3.5 million on Friday, heading for an industry-estimated $7.9 million opening weekend.
Audiences gave the film an A CinemaScore, the 10th A for an Angel release. On Rotten Tomatoes it holds a 93% audience score against a 50% critics score. The film is directed by Ben and Joel David Smallbone, with Joel David starring; the music comes from the band at the center of the project, four-time Grammy winners For King and Country.
The film reportedly had a $10 million budget. Also opening this weekend, 'Godzilla Minus Zero' is estimated at about $31 million, which would be a record opening for a live-action foreign-language film, while 'The Cat in the Hat' debuts in the same frame.
