麦克亨利堡本周末重现一战军医院：48星旗换旗仪式与历史展免费开放

Fort McHenry Revisits Its World War I Army Hospital This Weekend, With 48-Star Flag Ceremonies
Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine in Baltimore, Maryland, is holding a special program this weekend, November 7 and 8, ahead of Veterans Day, under the theme "What did the Great War teach us?" The event is free. Visitors can explore living-history presentations and exhibits about General Hospital No. 2, the Army hospital that operated at the fort during World War I, and consider the challenges faced by those who served there and how that generation remembered the war.
The schedule is the same on both days: a morning flag change with a 48-star flag at 10 a.m., ranger talks titled "Generations of Service at Fort McHenry" at 11:15 a.m. and 2:15 p.m., a flag talk at 1:15 p.m., and an evening flag change at 4 p.m. The General Hospital No. 2 living history and exhibits run continuously from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days.
The observance traces back to Armistice Day, established by President Wilson in 1919 to commemorate the end of the Great War; the holiday was later renamed Veterans Day to recognize all veterans. In its program notes, the National Park Service quotes President Eisenhower on the day's dual purpose: to solemnly remember the sacrifices of all who fought to preserve the heritage of freedom, and to reconsecrate the nation to promoting an enduring peace.
