苏瓦——美国地质调查局（USGS）测定，斐济群岛地区11月5日发生6.1级地震，震中位于南纬21.17度、西经178.65度，震源深度约540.8公里，属深源地震，发震时刻为协调世界时11月5日17时21分（斐济当地时间11月6日凌晨5时21分，美西时间11月5日9时21分），USGS 事件编号为 us7000tw8r。
由于震源极深，这次地震截至发稿时没有收到有感报告，也未有人员伤亡或财产损失的报告，相关机构未发布海啸预警。深源地震的能量在抵达地表前大幅衰减，即便震级较高，通常也很少造成破坏。
斐济位于环太平洋地震带上，附近海域深源地震并不罕见。USGS 的测定数据此后可能随复核修订。
Magnitude 6.1 Earthquake Strikes Fiji Region at About 541 km Depth; No Casualties Reported
Suva — A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck the Fiji region on November 5, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said. The epicentre was at 21.17 degrees south latitude and 178.65 degrees west longitude, at a depth of about 540.8 kilometres, making it a deep-focus earthquake. It occurred at 17:21 UTC on November 5 (5:21 a.m. on November 6 local time in Fiji, 9:21 a.m. Pacific Time on November 5). The USGS event ID is us7000tw8r.
Because of the great depth, no felt reports had been received as of publication, and there were no reports of casualties or property damage; no tsunami warning was issued. Energy from deep-focus earthquakes attenuates sharply before reaching the surface, so even comparatively strong events of this kind rarely cause destruction.
Fiji sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where deep-focus earthquakes in nearby waters are not uncommon. The USGS measurements may be revised as the event is reviewed.
