Schenectady's $122.7M budget plan banks on $6.5M more in New York state aid
The City of Schenectady's proposed 2027 budget totals $122.7 million, and balancing it depends on lobbying New York State for an additional $6.5 million in aid. The city council voted unanimously on Monday to formally request the extra aid.
State Senator Pat Fahy has spoken with Mayor Gary McCarthy about the request but would not say whether the figure is realistic. The mayor has warned that the city faces substantial layoffs if the aid does not come through.
