South Carolina Arts Commission gives 'substantially negative weight' to vulgar content in new grant rules
The South Carolina Arts Commission, at a special meeting on November 5, adopted new grant guidelines under which projects containing vulgar, obscene or abusive language will receive 'substantially negative weight' in grant reviews. The rules also create new procedures for commissioners to review content before panel scoring.
The decision follows the commission's October 15 discussion and marks the latest step in the state's content-review policy for arts grants. Arts organizations are watching how the standard will be applied.
