Kansas Democrats net 20 House seats, breaking GOP supermajority held since 2010
Kansas Democrats netted 20 state House seats in this election, breaking the Republican supermajority held since the 2010 election. The new House is expected to stand at 68 Republicans and 57 Democrats: Republicans keep the majority but can no longer override a governor's veto on their own.
House Minority Leader Brandon Woodard issued a statement on the results. The end of the supermajority means the Democratic governor's veto will carry real weight in dealings with the Republican-led legislature.
