Texas Governor-Elect Gina Hinojosa Holds First Post-Election News Conference
Texas Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa held her first post-election news conference at 2 p.m. on November 5 in Austin, taking questions about the transition. It was her first public appearance before the media since defeating three-term Republican Governor Greg Abbott. Her campaign said Hinojosa previously had a "successful initial conversation" with Abbott about the handover of power. Hinojosa, 52, is a five-term state representative from Austin and a former president of the Austin school board. She will become Texas' first Latina governor and the state's first Democratic governor since Ann Richards was elected in 1990. Born in McAllen and raised in Brownsville, she is the daughter of Gilberto Hinojosa, who chaired the Texas Democratic Party from 2012 to 2025. The new administration is scheduled to take office in January, and with the transition team now being assembled, the first news conference marks the public start of the handover.
