Missouri Sues Four Retailers Accused of Selling Marijuana Disguised as Hemp
Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway announced on Nov. 4 that her office has sued four retailers, accusing them of disguising marijuana products as hemp-derived CBD and posing as licensed marijuana dispensaries to mislead consumers. The suits are part of a statewide enforcement campaign against illegal sales of intoxicating cannabinoids.
The four businesses are Puffers Choice in Aurora, CBD Kratom Cannabis Dispensary in Des Peres, Herb Depot in Independence and Token THC Dispensary in Rock Port. Hanaway's office said that on the same day, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri dismissed a challenge to the state's cannabinoid law, rejecting claims that the law is preempted by federal law or unconstitutional — a ruling that backs the state's effort to close the so-called marijuana loophole.
Key provisions of the law take effect on Nov. 12, after which the state will step up enforcement against unlicensed sales of intoxicating cannabinoid products. Missouri residents who believe they were misled or harmed by marijuana or THC products can file a complaint through the attorney general's website, ago.mo.gov.
