皇后区公共图书馆11月4日线上中文讲座：保存华人家庭观念、赢得孩子信任
纽约州纽约市皇后区——皇后区公共图书馆（Queens Public Library）新移民服务部（New Americans Program）将于美东时间11月4日（周三）晚7时至8时举办线上中文讲座，主题为「两种期待，一种联系：如何保存华人家庭观念，同时赢得孩子的信任？」，由持牌心理学家 Elsa Lee 博士主讲；美西时间为当天下午4时至5时。
在美国长大的孩子，在学校生活、同伴关系和社会观念上可能与家长的华人文化有所不同。亲子双方对「尊重」的定义、孩子应有多少「自主权」、如何「表达意见」，都可能有不同理解。
讲座将从日常教养的角度，探讨文化背景如何影响家长对孩子的期待，以及亲子出现分歧时，如何通过理解与沟通，在接纳孩子的同时传承家庭价值观。

Queens Public Library Hosts Nov. 4 Online Chinese Talk: Preserving Chinese Family Values While Winning Children's Trust
New York City, New York — The New Americans Program of Queens Public Library will host an online talk in Chinese, “Two Sets of Expectations, One Connection: How to Preserve Chinese Family Values While Winning Your Children's Trust,” on Wednesday, November 4, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time (4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Pacific), presented by licensed psychologist Dr. Elsa Lee.
Children growing up in the United States encounter school life, peer relationships and social norms that may differ from their parents' Chinese cultural background. Parents and children can hold different understandings of what “respect” means, how much autonomy a child should have, and how opinions should be expressed.
Starting from everyday parenting, the workshop will explore how cultural background shapes parents' expectations, and how, when disagreements arise, understanding and communication can help parents accept their children while passing on the family values they cherish.
