Seattle Office of Police Accountability Releases October Recap: Police Accountability Survey Closes November 13

The Office of Police Accountability (OPA) in Seattle, King County, Washington, has released its October recap: the office held its second symposium at City Hall on October 22 to discuss the future of police accountability in Seattle, and its police accountability survey will close on Friday, November 13, with residents still able to respond anonymously before then.

At the symposium, OPA Director Bonnie Glenn and Community Engagement & Restorative Justice Specialist Geneva Taylor welcomed community members, local organizations and civic leaders to City Hall on Thursday, October 22, for table discussions on the future of police accountability. Panelists included Jessica Berliner, Senior Legal and Policy Advisor at the Washington Office of Independent Investigations; Senayet Negusse, Deputy Director of the Community Police Commission; Alyssa Perez-Morrison, Deputy Inspector General at the Office of Inspector General for Public Safety; and Gregory Davis, founding member and Managing Strategist of the Rainier Beach Action Coalition, with Seattle Public Schools Accountability Officer Ted Howard moderating. The event also shared news that the National Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement (NACOLE) annual conference will come to Seattle in 2027.

The OPA police accountability survey closes on November 13. The survey is anonymous, collects no personal information and reports results only as overall totals, and is available in English, Amharic, Spanish and traditional Chinese through the survey link published by the office.

On cases and policy, OPA recently posted new closed case summaries, including case 2026OPA-0085 (an officer who pushed community members during crowd control at the Seahawks parade on February 11, 2026; no allegations were sustained) and case 2025OPA-0213 (a police recruit who pushed his sibling and damaged a door during a domestic dispute at home; all allegations were sustained). On policy, the Seattle Police Department has responded to OPA's management action recommendation on mandatory reporting, incorporating the requested changes into its domestic violence policy and planning to add them to another section of the manual, so the recommendation is partially implemented.

OPA is the City of Seattle's police accountability office, based in the Seattle Municipal Tower, and posts its closed case summaries on its website roughly every other week.
