Supervisor Joe Baca Jr. Helps Secure $75,000 to Expand San Bernardino Police Public Safety Camera Program

San Bernardino, San Bernardino County, California — The San Bernardino Police Department announced on November 3 that San Bernardino County Fifth District Supervisor Joe Baca Jr. has helped secure $75,000 in funding to support the expansion of the department's Public Safety Camera Program, further strengthening public safety and investigative capabilities throughout the city.

The funding follows a break-in earlier this year at KKC Route 66 Little League Baseball, where the suspect stole several thousand dollars worth of equipment, the department said. During the investigation, San Bernardino Police Department detectives utilized the department's Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) camera system to help identify and locate the suspect vehicle, demonstrating the important role technology plays in solving crimes and protecting the community. Recognizing the value of these investigative tools, Supervisor Baca worked to help secure additional funding that will allow the department to expand its public safety camera network and enhance its ability to respond to criminal activity.

"This investment is about more than cameras, it's about protecting our neighborhoods, supporting our officers, and holding criminals accountable," said San Bernardino Police Chief Darren Goodman. "The incident involving KKC Route 66 Little League is a perfect example of how technology can make a real difference in our community. Our ALPR cameras provided critical information that helped investigators locate the suspect vehicle. I want to personally thank Supervisor Joe Baca Jr. for recognizing the importance of these tools and stepping up to help us expand this program. Partnerships like this allow us to be more proactive, solve crimes more efficiently, and make San Bernardino a safer place for everyone."

The additional funding will support the continued expansion of the department's public safety camera infrastructure, providing investigators with valuable tools to identify suspect vehicles, develop investigative leads, and assist officers in responding to incidents throughout the city, the department said. The department said it remains committed to leveraging technology, strengthening community partnerships, and investing in innovative solutions that improve public safety, and extended its appreciation to Supervisor Baca for his continued support of law enforcement and the San Bernardino community.
