Pennsylvania Election Day: Shapiro Faces Garrity, and Official Voting Information Is Available in Chinese
Pennsylvania polls were open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on November 3, with voters in line at 8 p.m. still able to vote; mail ballots had to reach county election offices by 8 p.m., and a postmark alone did not count. Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro sought re-election against Republican State Treasurer Stacy Garrity, with Libertarian Kenneth Krawchuk and Green candidate Anthony DeStaso also on the ballot. Lt. Gov. Austin Davis, a Democrat, faced Republican Jason Ritchie. All 17 U.S. House seats were up, with the 1st District race between Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick and Democrat Bob Harvey and the 7th District race between Republican Rep. Ryan Mackenzie and Democrat Bob Brooks drawing the most attention; all 203 state House seats and 25 of the 50 state Senate seats were also decided, and there was no regular U.S. Senate election this cycle. Secretary of State Al Schmidt's voter-education effort highlighted that the state's election information site, vote.pa.gov, is available in English, Spanish and Chinese, with a polling-place lookup and county election office contacts, and outreach materials in English, Spanish, Chinese, Russian and Vietnamese, so voters in different languages, including Chinese speakers, can check dates, deadlines and voting methods. Voters could also call the Secretary of State's year-round hotline, 1-877-VOTESPA.
