Charleston Animal Society Adoption Week Places 114 Pets: 83 Kittens Among Animals Rehomed
Charleston Animal Society, based in North Charleston, Charleston County, South Carolina, announced on November 2 that 114 animals were adopted during its 10th annual Birthday Pawty sponsored adoption week, held October 19 through October 25, 2026. The animals that went home with new families included 15 dogs, 12 cats, 83 kittens and 4 other animals.
This year's event expanded beyond the society's main campus on Remount Road in North Charleston to include its Berkeley Campus in Moncks Corner, which accounted for 34 of the week's adoptions. Every animal adopted through the campaign went home spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and behavior-tested. The adoption week was sponsored for the tenth year by local real estate team Jeff Cook Real Estate LPT Realty, whose founder Jeff Cook marks his October birthday month by raising support for homeless pets.
Kay Hyman, the society's Senior Director of Community Engagement, joined the sponsor's team meeting in September with Paloma, a one-year-old shepherd blend, for a check presentation. Hyman noted that a move is one of the most common reasons families put off adopting. Beyond the annual event, the team sponsors the adoption of one featured shelter pet each month through its monthly sponsorship program; October's featured dog was Dreamer, a gentle five-year-old who loves car rides.
The sponsorships are funded through the team's 1% For Good commitment, under which a portion of the company dollar from each agent's closing is set aside for causes in the communities it serves, from youth sports to pet adoptions. Residents interested in adopting can view available pets through the society's official website.
