Alaska Regenerative Pilot Adds Three Eligible Practices: FY2027 Funding Rises to $1 Billion, With Application Deadlines November 13 and April 15
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Alaska announced in Palmer, Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Alaska, on November 2 that three practices have been added for farmers participating in the Regenerative Pilot Program in fiscal year 2027: Stream Habitat Improvement and Management, Aquatic Organism Passage (fish passage), and In-Field Soil Health Assessment, now available for range, pasture and forest land. Together with 15 other primary practices available nationwide, they give Alaska producers more opportunities to adopt conservation systems that improve soil health, water quality and long-term farm resilience.
NRCS said the added practices were recommended with feedback from the State Technical Advisory Committee to reflect local resource concerns, production systems and producer needs. Alan D. McBee, state conservationist for USDA NRCS Alaska, said Alaska faces unique agricultural challenges, from short growing seasons and remote supply chains to extreme weather, and the program gives producers additional tools to improve the health and productivity of their land.
For fiscal year 2027, federal assistance for the program rises from $700 million to $1 billion, with $650 million dedicated through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and $350 million through the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP). The program maintains whole-farm planning while lowering the CSP requirement to address Alaska's identified critical soil and water resource concerns from 100% of an applicant's land to 75%. Producers can sign up anytime through their local NRCS Service Center; Alaska producers interested in funding during the current fiscal year should apply by November 13, 2026, and April 15, 2027.
