The Count Basie Orchestra Swings Into Christmas in San Diego on Dec. 17
The Jacobs Music Center in San Diego, San Diego County, California, hosts A Very Swingin' Basie Christmas on Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m.: the legendary Count Basie Orchestra, directed by Scotty Barnhart, performs with guest vocalist Carmen Bradford.
The program gives the big-band swing treatment to holiday standards including Let It Snow, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and Silent Night. Founded by Count Basie in 1935, the orchestra defined the Kansas City swing sound with its precision rhythm section; it has continued after Basie's death in 1984 and is among the longest-running big bands in jazz.
The concert is a Jacobs Music Center special presentation; the San Diego Symphony does not perform. The venue is at 1245 Seventh Ave, San Diego, CA 92101. Tickets are sold through official channels.
It lands in the same week as the San Diego Symphony's Noel Noel holiday concerts at The Rady Shell on Dec. 18 to 20.
