Nets Beat Pacers 98-90 for First Win of the Season: Porter Scores 23, Sharpe Adds 15 Points and 13 Rebounds
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana: The Brooklyn Nets secured their elusive first win of the season on Sunday, November 1, beating the Indiana Pacers 98-90 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse behind 23 points from Michael Porter Jr., improving to 1-5.
Brooklyn led the entire second half. Holding a 43-40 halftime edge, the Nets opened the third quarter with nine straight points to push the lead to 52-40, with Porter converting a four-point play and Nolan Traore adding a 3-pointer and a floater. Julius Randle scored 20 points, Traore 16, Day'Ron Sharpe collected 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Moritz Wagner chipped in 14 off the bench. Brooklyn led 71-62 entering the fourth. Indiana's 10-4 run early in the final quarter cut the deficit to 75-72 — the last time the Pacers were within a possession — before Randle's stepback 3-pointer with 4:44 left pushed the lead back to 10; after Andrew Nembhard's 3-pointer trimmed it to seven at the 2:24 mark, neither team made another field goal.
Nembhard paced Indiana with 23 points, followed by Pascal Siakam's 17, Quenton Jackson's 12, and 11 apiece from Aaron Nesmith and Kelly Oubre Jr., as the Pacers dropped their fourth straight game. Porter and Siakam each scored 13 in a first half in which the teams combined for 17 turnovers.
