Follow-Up: Hawks Rookie Kingston Flemings Suspended One Game for Elbowing McGowens in the Head
The NBA announced on Sunday, November 1, that Atlanta Hawks rookie guard Kingston Flemings has been suspended one game without pay for intentionally elbowing New Orleans Pelicans guard Bryce McGowens in the head during the teams' game on Saturday night. Flemings will serve the suspension on Monday, November 2, when the Hawks visit the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
The suspension was announced by James Jones, the NBA's executive vice president and head of basketball operations. According to the league, the incident occurred with 3:04 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Hawks' 121-99 loss to the Pelicans on October 31 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. Flemings was assessed a technical foul and ejected; Pelicans player Julian Reese also received a technical foul in the ensuing altercation.
ESPN salary expert Bobby Marks calculated that the one-game ban will cost Flemings $42,234, or 1/174th of his $7,348,680 salary for the 2026-27 season. Flemings told reporters after Saturday's game that frustration had gotten the best of him.
Flemings, 19, was selected by Atlanta with the No. 8 pick in last June's draft and is viewed as the Hawks' point guard of the future. He is averaging 7.1 points and 4.6 assists in seven games off the bench this season, including a 23-point outing against the Miami Heat last week.
