Celtics Beat Magic 108-97 for Fifth Straight Win: Tatum Scores 32 After Returning From a Head Collision
ORLANDO, Florida: The Boston Celtics beat the Orlando Magic 108-97 at Kia Center on Sunday afternoon, November 1, for their fifth straight win, improving to 5-1 as Jayson Tatum scored a game-high 32 points after leaving the game in the first quarter with a bleeding head injury and returning.
Tatum shot 8 of 19 from the field and made 15 of 17 free throws — matching the entire Orlando team at the line — with seven assists, four rebounds and two blocks. He collided heads inadvertently with Orlando's Jamal Cain late in the first quarter, visited the locker room, and returned with 6:13 left in the first half. Paul George added 17 points, six rebounds and eight assists, 10 of his points in the fourth quarter, and his 3-pointer with 1:32 remaining made it 106-95. Neemias Queta delivered a pair of critical blocks in the final two minutes. Boston shot just 12 of 44 from 3-point range but won on the offensive glass and with defense — nine steals, seven blocks and 18 forced turnovers — for its first road win of the season.
Anthony Black and Tristan da Silva scored 23 points apiece for Orlando, da Silva adding 10 rebounds. The Magic erased a 15-point deficit in the third quarter, tying the game at 72 on Black's 3-pointer that capped an 18-3 run after Boston had led 69-54, and cut the margin to 97-93 with 3:59 left in the fourth before Boston closed on an 11-4 run. Orlando fell to 2-4 and 0-3 at home.
Boston continues its road trip Monday night at the Houston Rockets, while Orlando hosts the Washington Wizards on Monday night. (GSM, reporting from The Associated Press)
