Bills Beat Ravens 36-10: Jackson Leaves in the First Quarter as Allen Accounts for Three Touchdowns
The Buffalo Bills beat the Baltimore Ravens 36-10 on Sunday, November 1, at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York, improving to 6-1 while the Ravens fell to 4-4. Ravens starting quarterback Lamar Jackson injured his hand on Baltimore's first offensive play and left the game, his backup was also hurt, and Baltimore had to turn to third-string quarterback Joe Fagnano, who had never played in an NFL regular-season game.
Jackson was returning after missing three games. On the first play of the Ravens' first drive, his hand was hit by Bills pass rusher Greg Rousseau as he threw; Jackson grabbed his hand, left the field for the locker room and was later ruled out. Backup Tyler Huntley took over but injured his foot in the second quarter, leaving the rookie Fagnano to make his NFL debut.
Buffalo scored first when Josh Allen finished the opening drive with a rushing touchdown on a fourth-down tush push for a 7-0 lead, and Tyler Bass added a 56-yard field goal to make it 10-0. Derrick Henry's rushing touchdown brought Baltimore within 10-7 after an interception set the Ravens up in Bills territory, but Bass kicked two more field goals, including a 51-yarder, to give Buffalo a 16-7 halftime lead.
Tyler Loop's 26-yard field goal cut the margin to 16-10 early in the second half, but Buffalo closed the game out from there: James Cook ran for a touchdown, and Allen threw touchdown passes to DJ Moore (11 yards) and Dalton Kincaid (23 yards), with a two-point try failing after the Moore score. The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reported that Allen also passed Bills great Jim Kelly for a franchise record during the game.
Baltimore's offense never recovered from the quarterback injuries. Fagnano threw an interception to cornerback Davison Igbinosun and fumbled a snap late in the game that linebacker Dorian Williams recovered, and Loop also hit the upright on a 34-yard field-goal try in the second quarter.
