North Carolina Receiver Majay Thompson Decommits From Florida State
On November 1, Majay Thompson, a star football player at Crest High School in Shelby, Cleveland County, North Carolina, announced on social media that he is backing out of his verbal commitment to Florida State University and reopening his college recruitment. Thompson, a member of the class of 2027, stands 6 feet tall and weighs 186 pounds; recruiting services rate him a three-star prospect and the No. 17 recruit in North Carolina, and he is one of the state's most-watched wide receivers in his class.
He committed to Florida State in June, choosing it over Georgia, Alabama and Wake Forest, among others, with more than 20 schools having pursued him. So far this season, Thompson has 24 catches for 371 yards and four touchdowns; over four high school seasons he has totaled 132 receptions for 2,023 yards and 25 touchdowns. Thompson said the decision came from following his heart.
Florida State is in a period of transition, having dismissed head coach Mike Norvell after a 3–5 start to the season.
