ASYLUM Arrives on Consoles: The Horror Adventure 15 Years in the Making Lands on PlayStation, Xbox and Switch
The console edition of the horror adventure ASYLUM launched on October 30 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch, arriving just ahead of Halloween. Developed by Argentine studio Senscape and published by Dutch publisher SOEDESCO, the game is priced at $29.99, according to the official Xbox store listing, with a limited-time 20 percent launch discount bringing the Xbox and Switch digital editions to about $23.99; physical editions are also on sale in the United States.
ASYLUM is a first-person psychological horror adventure set inside the Hanwell Mental Institute. Players take the role of a former patient troubled by bizarre visions who returns to the decaying building, explores its intricate layout, researches its past and works toward a shocking conclusion. The game has no weapons and no combat system; its challenge comes from observation, puzzles and piecing together clues. The official Xbox listing puts the playtime at around 10 hours and notes that its storyline was kept secret through 15 years of production.
The game's road to release is unusual for the industry. Designer Agustín Cordes, known for the 2006 cult horror adventure Scratches, first announced ASYLUM in 2010. The PC edition reached Steam and GOG on March 13, 2025, and the console launch marks the first time the game has been playable without a computer. Inspired by H. P. Lovecraft, Britain's Hammer Films and 1980s European horror cinema, the game is rated M for Mature by the ESRB.
SOEDESCO has released the console launch trailer on its official channel. According to the game's Steam page, the October 30 console launch also added Simplified and Traditional Chinese language support.
