Austin Police Issue Halloween Safety Tips: Use Crosswalks, Carry Lights and Reflective Gear, Never Enter a Stranger's Home or Car
Austin, Travis County, Texas — The Austin Police Department issued Halloween safety tips for families on October 31, urging parents to keep children safe during trick-or-treating that evening. Police advised that children use designated crosswalks at all times when crossing streets and never enter the homes or vehicles of strangers.
Police also recommended that children carry flashlights, glow sticks or reflective gear to improve visibility at night, and that parents accompany young children throughout. The department said the guidance follows National Highway Traffic Safety Administration pedestrian safety protocols, aimed at reducing traffic risks on a busy holiday evening.
