Baylor Routs UCF 41-9: Lagway Throws Four Touchdowns in Interim Coach Klanderman's Debut Win

Baylor routed UCF 41-9 on Friday night, October 30, at Acrisure Bounce House in Orlando, Florida, giving interim head coach Joe Klanderman a win in his first game in charge. A sellout crowd of 45,906 watched UCF's 10th annual Space Game.

Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway completed 16 of 25 passes for 319 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions. He opened the scoring with a 4-yard touchdown pass to tight end Tony Livingston, and Caden Knighten's 2-yard rushing touchdown made it 14-0 in the second quarter. UCF scored only on Will Stone field goals; Baylor led 20-6 at halftime, with Stone's 57-yarder at the end of the half setting a UCF school record.

Lagway threw a 21-yard touchdown to Livingston in the third quarter and then hit Gavin Freeman for a 77-yard score to make it 34-6, before finding Matthew Klopfenstein for a 5-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to close the scoring at 41-9. Freeman finished with five catches for 114 yards, and Ryelan Morris ran 11 times for 82 yards.

Baylor's defense did not allow a touchdown: UCF totaled 281 yards, including just 66 rushing, quarterback Keyone Jenkins went 14-for-21 for only 82 yards with an interception, and the Bears recorded seven sacks. Klanderman, the defensive coordinator, took over after seven-year head coach Dave Aranda's departure on Sunday.

Baylor improved to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the Big 12, while UCF fell to 4-4 and 2-3 in the conference, one week after upsetting then-No. 2 BYU. Baylor hosts Iowa State next Saturday.
