Oakland Chinatown in Alameda County, California, will host a family Halloween trick-or-treat on the afternoon of Friday, October 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. Participants gather first in the lobby of the Oakland Asian Cultural Center, then follow the route of participating Chinatown merchants to collect treats, looking for the event signs at storefronts. A family costume contest will also run at the cultural center from 2 p.m., welcoming children dressed as ghosts, superheroes and princesses.
The event is free and aimed at community families: children get to experience the Halloween tradition while foot traffic flows to Chinatown's small businesses. Oakland Chinatown is one of the Bay Area's key Chinese American commercial districts.
