Thousands Join 'Defend the Ballot' March on the National Mall in Washington on Oct. 30, Warning of Rollbacks in Voting and Civil Rights

Thousands of people marched on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on October 30 in the '2026 Defend the Ballot Washington March,' warning that voting rights and civil rights are rolling back, according to reports from organizations including the National Urban League. The march was organized by the Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network, Martin Luther King III and Andrea Waters King's Drum Major Institute, and more than 90 partner organizations including the NAACP and the National Urban League; participants included union members, students, members of Black Greek-letter organizations and people of all ages from across the country.

Organizers said that more than six decades after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech at the Lincoln Memorial, the freedoms he fought for are again under threat.
